The Balance

Balancing time and responsibilities has become the name of the game for me. For instance, today, I am writing to balance the time I have before an appointment to access services I must access to secure a home. It’s not to say that the writing is more important than the meeting, but while I wait for the appointment, I have some time to craft this story for you.

After four years of domestic service to the Domme, with whom I had a relationship, I was let go. I was to find a new home. With the rising cost of housing in the Lower Mainland, it seemed prudent to access resources such as BC Housing to find a place. Four years off work, taking schooling, and generally bettering my education to return to the workforce was and still is a goal I hope to achieve.

Am I ready to work? Yes. Do I hope to get in the door past the ATS or management to talk to who matters? Unsure. In my experience, the balance always matters, who you know and what they know you for. My current situation is weighted sort of off balance. I have contacts in the rest of Canada in tech. In Vancouver, some are just not the ones who will interview for a job. Maybe it is time for something different in a different field of work.

I used to work in replenishment, walking supplies to stations in a factory. I also used to pour metal for a living. I’ve built houses and done carpentry. My love, though, is tech work. Living in 2024, it feels like getting a job at a convenience store or working in manual labor. Earlier today, I was told if I wanted to, I could be set up to be an escort/manwhore…not a dream job, but potentially lucrative if I don’t mind selling my body.

If you have a good job, don’t settle for something you don’t like doing. Grow in it and hold onto it. Take my experience as a reason to stick with it, even if it’s hard.

Be safe, friends, and may your day be profitable in the best way.
