Exploring Online Communication Methods

Daily writing prompt
In what ways do you communicate online?

Good morning, friends!

Back in the days before the internet became widely accessible, I started using email, ICQ, and computer message boards. These message boards, commonly known as BBS (Bulletin Board Systems), were a popular way to communicate in the 1990s. Considering we’re now in 2025, that was over 30 years ago.

While BBS systems have largely been replaced by social media platforms, accessible through apps and browsers on our phones, I’ve adapted to using these modern platforms for communication. This platform is also one of the tools I use to connect with others.

With advancements in technology since the 1990s, the variety of communication apps has grown exponentially. Users now have options beyond email, with instant messaging apps making it easier than ever to reach out to anyone in real time. These apps are designed to keep users connected as long as they have a stable internet connection. However, they do rely on the necessary infrastructure to function.

Another way I stay connected online is through multiplayer video games. Whether I’m playing on my phone or computer, these games often include in-game messaging systems that allow players to chat and collaborate during game play.

Stay safe friends
