My first computer

Write about your first computer.

Hello friends,

My first computer I owned was a 386dx33. It had DOS 6.22 and Windows 3.11. Basically it was enough to communicate with the world. I didn’t have internet access through the computer at the time but I was able to connect to the local Bulletin Board System or BBS through the phone line with my 28800 baud modem. I can’t even remember how much ram I had but it was enough for me at the time.

The 386 was definitely not the best at the time but only two steps down from the at the time best (pentiums had just come out). Hy parents had a 486 with internet access but at the time it was all through dial up which as far as communication ways was not the best but understandably the only way to get connected.

This was in 1992 or so and everyone was dealing with the same less than great way to be connected. I’m so thankful that times have made it easier for us to get online and talk with one another.

I kinda wish I still had the 386 so I could do a time warp examination of the difference between then and now.

Old tech may be old but it’s still interesting to compare abilities between then and now. Heck my cell phone is more powerful computation wise to my 386dx33.

I am a bit of an old dude, but I’ve grown in knowledge and understanding as technology has changed and improved. I hope that you have as well. Change can be hard but adapting to the changes allows us to grow intellectually as well as emotionally.

Now I’m using both Linux and Windows 11 in tandem to accomplish my goals on multiple devices simultaneously or on a single device with both installed.

This is why growth is imperative as we find better ways to do things, that 386dx33 wouldn’t be able to be used to write these posts. Instead I’m using a lower end Apple 12 Pro Max to publish this post instead of my old second hand 386dx33.

Expand your horizons from your starting point. Grow and use the latest out there. I have even though I still use an older model phone to write my experiences to you.

I hope that today brings you joy and fulfillment. Stay safe friends.
